Why Friendly Reassurance is Crucial

For older persons, social isolation is a serious public health concern. The issue is not new, even though COVID-19 increased attention to it and may have made loneliness and isolation worse for certain people.Studies from decades ago warn of the frequency of social isolation, particularly among older persons, and the potential health issues it may cause. According to research, social isolation and loneliness increase one’s risk of developing conditions including high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, obesity, stress, depression, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or even mortality.
